A 360-degree wood-burning stove is a closed appliance that offers a view of the flame from every side of the room: either it can be turned through a full circle on its axis, or its glazed sides surround the fire. The two approaches meet two different needs: orienting the flame, or admiring it from all around. Focus offers six pivoting wood-burning stoves, five suspended and one floor-standing, as well as a stove with fixed panoramic glazing, suspended or on a base.

A pivoting 360-degree wood-burning stove can be swivelled through a full circle on its axis, with no mechanical end stop. It is also known as a 360 pivoting stove or a 360 swivel stove. The stove can be turned in either direction: rotation is continuous, with no limit.
Wood is what makes this freedom of rotation through 360 degrees possible: no fuel passes through the flue, unlike gas versions, whose pivoting range is limited. Focus wood-burning models have applied this principle since the creation in 1968 of the Gyrofocus, the first suspended fireplace to pivot through 360 degrees.
‘360 degrees’ does not always mean rotation. The Agorafocus, suspended or on a base, does not pivot: its glazed sides wrap all the way around the firebox and offer a panoramic view of the flames. Where a pivoting stove lets you orient the flame, the Agorafocus makes it visible from every side at once. In an open-plan space, every living area thus has a view of the fire.
A 360-degree wood-burning stove is first and foremost a heating appliance. It is usually installed in the main living room, where most time is spent, or in a particularly cold room, for example one facing north. Most Focus wood-burning stoves achieve an efficiency of at least 80%: a high level for designer stoves, whose forms are often organic.
The output of the stove is chosen according to the volume of that room. The reference is the nominal output, measured under standard operating conditions. Depending on the amount of wood and the air intake setting, the appliance runs below or above this value. At Focus, the nominal output of the Slimfocus is 4.5 kW; the Bathyscafocus can reach 19 kW.
The free space to allow around a 360-degree wood-burning stove is determined first by its dimensions, which are specific to each model: from 33 cm in diameter for the Slimfocus to 1.25 m for the Gyrofocus. A round stove pivots on its axis, within its own volume: its rotation requires no additional space. Only the Eurofocus, whose front face is rectangular, needs space to be set aside for its rotation.
The heat given off by the fire also requires free space around the appliance: the safety clearances from combustible materials are given in the technical data sheet for each model. The clearance is greater in front of the glass, where heat emission is strongest. As the stove can be swivelled, the glass can face any direction: this clearance then applies all the way round. Trained by the brand at the Focus Academy, the Focus-authorised dealer is an installation professional, who advises on the positioning of the stove and checks the safety clearances from the project design stage.
Five suspended stoves pivot through 360 degrees: the wood-burning Gyrofocus, the Domofocus, the Ergofocus, the wood-burning Bathyscafocus and the Slimfocus. From 1968 to 2015, 360-degree rotation remained a constant in Focus designs: the Gyrofocus in 1968, the Bathyscafocus in 1978, the Ergofocus in 1983, the Slimfocus in 2013 and the Domofocus in 2015. The Slimfocus is available fixed or pivoting, in standard or room-sealed versions. The room-sealed version, suited to airtight homes (low-energy buildings), is the first suspended, pivoting wood-burning fireplace with sealed combustion. The design of the Slimfocus received a German Design Award in 2017.
Full rotation is instinctively associated with suspended models. The wood-burning Eurofocus is the exception: although it stands on the floor, it too can be turned through 360 degrees. It is the only floor-standing stove in the Focus collection that pivots. Full rotation therefore does not depend on the stove being suspended. Designed in 1993, the Eurofocus received the Mercure du Design award in Paris the same year. Its output ranges from 8 to 14 kW.
