360-Degree Fireplace: Panoramic Vision or a Rotating Hearth

The term “360 degrees” covers two distinct notions and experiences of fire: panoramic vision, made possible by a glazed hearth that offers an unobstructed view of the fire from every point in the room, and rotation, where the hearth itself pivots, up to 360 degrees depending on the energy source. At Focus, both principles exist, through its collection of suspended central fireplaces and floor-standing central fireplaces, each with its own particular characteristics.

What Is a 360-Degree Fireplace?

Seeing the Fire from Several Sides

A hearth glazed on all its faces can be viewed from any point in the room. The fire itself remains still. Its perception stays constant wherever one stands, since the hearth is, in most cases, glazed and circular. This panoramic vision does not involve any movement of the appliance.

Orienting the Hearth Through Rotation

A suspended hearth, by contrast, can pivot on its own axis. Mounted to the ceiling by its flue, it turns to direct the flames toward a specific area of the room.

This rotation traces its origins to the creation of the Gyrofocus by Dominique Imbert in 1968: the first suspended hearth, rotating a full 360 degrees, a configuration then absent from the fireplace market. With no formal design training, he nonetheless created a principle that became a signature of the Focus brand. This movement has since been carried forward across several other suspended models, the collection retaining the rotation principle as it expanded into new energy sources.

Which Focus Models Offer 360-Degree Vision or Rotation?

Meijifocus, Filiofocus and Agorafocus: Flames Visible at 360 Degrees

The Meijifocus and the Filiofocus share the same principle of 360-degree vision: a fully glazed hearth, with no uprights, leaving the eye free to rest on the flames without obstruction. The Agorafocus offers a slightly different reading of the flames at 360 degrees: its panes, separated by uprights, break the view into several planes, for a perception of the fire that changes according to the angle from which it is observed.

Rotating Models: From 80 to 360 Degrees Depending on the Energy Source

The extent of this rotation varies according to the energy powering the hearth: at Focus, it reaches 360 degrees for a wood- or bioethanol-burning hearth, offering a complete, continuous rotation! Gas technology retains a 100-degree pivot – a technological feat made possible by the arrival of gas through the ceiling – while electric Holographik® versions rotate 80 degrees.

  • 360-degree rotating models, wood-burning: the suspended models Gyrofocus, Domofocus, Ergofocus and Slimfocus, along with the freestanding Eurofocus, whose flat hearth pivots around its flue.
  • 360-degree rotating models, bioethanol: Gyrofocus, Domofocus, Ergofocus.
  • 100-degree rotating models, gas: Gyrofocus and Ergofocus, both honored with numerous distinctions in their gas reissues, including a Good Design Award each – a renowned American award – in 2023 and 2025 respectively. The Ergofocus gas model was also recognized with a German Design Award in 2024.
  • 80-degree rotating models, electric: the Ergofocus and the Bathyscafocus.

Checking the Layout and Specifications of the Model

Clearance to Allow Around the Hearth

A suspended hearth that rotates requires clear space all around it, with no furniture or wall too close, so the rotation can take place unimpeded. A 360-degree glazed hearth requires the room to offer several genuinely open points of view: otherwise, part of the glazing goes unused.

Dimensions to Weigh Against the Room's Volume

The 360-degree models in the Focus fireplace collection span a wide range of dimensions. The Gyrofocus, with its 1.25 m diameter, suits a large volume. The Ergofocus, at 95 cm, and the Agorafocus, with its compact 63 cm hearth, adapt to mid-sized rooms. The Slimfocus, with its 33 cm diameter, suits the most constrained spaces.
