Read the articleA modern fireplace is a fireplace with sober lines, free from superfluous ornament. Inherited from the spirit of modernism, it prioritises the legibility of form, the balance of proportions and function. This simplicity makes it easier to integrate into a living room, whether the architecture is old or contemporary, and whatever the style of the room.

Installing a modern fireplace makes it possible to introduce a design element into the living room. It creates a strong presence without overloading the space.
The singularity of Focus design lies in the purity of its lines and the sobriety of its forms, which makes it easier to integrate. Between 1967 and 2017, Dominique Imbert, the artist and founder of Focus, created around one hundred models with singular designs, around twenty of which are now part of the catalogue.
Reissued iconic models, Origins models and limited editions: the diversity of sizes and forms makes it possible to choose the model suited to the configuration of the living room. One common point across all models: steel.
The steel used in Focus fireplaces pairs very well with a wide variety of materials, whether in flooring, furniture or textiles. In a period interior, it creates a contrast with stone walls. In a contemporary space, it accompanies refined lines and open volumes, reinforcing the harmony of the whole.
A modern fireplace structures the space: depending on its position, it can serve as an anchor point to organise the seating and coffee table, as well as circulation. The choice of model depends on the volume of the room, which may be more or less open, the available wall sections and the perspectives from which the fire will be visible.
In a large living room open to the dining area or kitchen, a central fireplace or suspended fireplace structures the volume without partitioning it. Visible from several areas of the living space, it creates a point of reference around the fire.
The hearth may be fixed, with glass sides, as with the Agorafocus, Meijifocus or Filiofocus. It may also be pivoting, like several iconic suspended models, including the Gyrofocus or Ergofocus.
In a compact living room, the choice of model depends on the scale relationship between the hearth and the room. A well-proportioned model retains a strong presence without visually reducing the space.
With its 33 cm diameter, the Slimfocus illustrates this search for compactness. Its vertical line and small footprint make it easier to integrate into even very contained volumes, while retaining an assertive presence.
When the living room is structured by a load-bearing wall or partition, a wall-mounted fireplace frees the centre of the room and offers a frontal view of the fire.
A model such as the Edofocus can also open the view to the sides thanks to its glazed hearth. The furniture is then arranged facing the fireplace, without disrupting circulation or the overall layout of the living room.
Installation depends on the energy chosen and the characteristics of the building. For a wood-burning or gas hearth, the flue route, roof outlet and air supply need to be studied. In a new-build project, the ideal approach is to plan the position of the fireplace at the design stage.
In a renovation project, the assessment starts from the existing conditions: building configuration, available flue or flue to be created, air supply and positioning possibilities.
Whatever the energy, including bioethanol, safety distances must be taken into account. Only Holographik® technology, with no combustion, does not require a flue; an electrical supply is sufficient.
The energy must correspond to the real use of the living room. Wood combines heating with a direct experience of fire. Gas offers real flames with simplified use. Bioethanol allows installation without a flue in most cases. Holographik® electric technology offers a digital experience of fire.
Focus has made the reissue of its iconic models in different energies a major area of development, in order to perpetuate their design while responding to contemporary needs.
The Focus-authorized dealer analyses the configuration of the living room, advises on the choice of model and energy, takes measurements and prepares the layout plan. Focus technical teams then check feasibility before manufacturing.
This support makes it possible to achieve a compliant installation, harmoniously integrated into the living room, in order to enhance the space.
